ADAPT / S.O.S. GRANT
(Sharpening Our Skills)

Purpose: To assist teachers or individuals to receive extra training in:

  • Reading / language arts / communications or related communication skills.
  • Utilization of their auditory skills for the improvement of reading and speaking skills.

Goal: Aiding the improvement of self or others through training in communication skills.

This grant was originally established in 1999 as the ADAPT Grant to allow an individual to attend one of the Lindamood Bell Workshops to train ADAPT teachers. It was first awarded in 2000 to a Kansas applicant in the amount of $600. This is a technique developed by the Lindamoods of California to teach people to read who do not have the ability to perceive the sounds and the order of the sounds, or who can see letters in words, but cannot tell if they are saying the right sounds in the right order. For further information on the ADAPT technique and program go to their website Lindamood-Bell.

In 2008 this grant was revised to extend the parameters and to include a variety of techniques now available. Applicants who wish to be trained to help others or to help themselves as individuals are encouraged to apply for this grant. (Sharpening Our Skills - S.O.S.)

Anyone is eligible to apply for the ADAPT / S.O.S. Grant who meets the minimum requirements. This grant is provided from donations to the ADAPT / S.O.S. fund.
